OUR FIFTH WEEKEND SEMINAR

We’re excited to return to Strawberry Creek Lodge this September for our fifth weekend Edmonton Guitar Seminar. Set in the peaceful countryside southwest of Edmonton, Strawberry Creek offers a beautiful rural retreat — the perfect setting to step away from the city and spend a weekend immersed in ensemble playing, workshops, conversation and music-making.

Our resident team — Founder Marsello Avilez, Artistic Director Carson Saunter, and Operations Director Karen Stevenson — will once again be at the heart of the weekend, joined this year by guest conductor Simon Farintosh and composer Liova Bueno.

This year’s seminar will take place September 26–27, 2026 at Strawberry Creek Lodge, with a special Friday evening concert on September 25.

Simon Farintosh, from Victoria BC will be our Guest Director

We are very pleased to welcome Canadian guitarist Simon Farintosh as our guest conductor.

Simon is an engaging performer and teacher whose thoughtful, collaborative approach will guide our ensemble work throughout the weekend. Participants will have the opportunity to rehearse, learn and make music together under his direction.

Simon Farintosh is an award-winning guitarist, composer, and educator based in Victoria, British Columbia. Named one of CBC’s “30 Under 30 Classical Musicians” in 2023, Simon is known for his thoughtful musicianship, creative programming, and innovative work connecting classical guitar with contemporary music.

We’re also delighted that composer Liova Bueno will be joining us for the weekend. A Dominican-Canadian composer whose music has been performed internationally.

We are honoured to include one of his guitar ensemble pieces in our September 2026 Seminar. Several members of our own Edmonton Social Guitar community participated in the Northwest Guitar Festival ensemble this past March, where they had the opportunity to work with Liova’s music. We are excited to bring that connection into our own weekend of music-making.

The Edmonton Guitar Social Club was created to bring guitarists of all levels together to make music in a friendly and enjoyable environment. Each piece is arranged to accommodate different skill levels, ensuring that everyone can participate and grow musically.
